First Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Round table 2016
May 8, 2016 - May 9, 2016
Stroke recovery is the new frontier in stroke medicine.
Building evidence-based treatments for rehabilitation is now recognised as a major global priority and this requires a coordinated effort at national and international levels. A new international partnership of leading stroke experts has taken up the challenge of advancing the research agenda in stroke recovery and rehabilitation, with the aim of achieving an agreed approach to how we will develop, conduct and report recovery research in the future. This will represent a significant advance in the field which will be pivotal for progressing stroke recovery and rehabilitation. The goal of the roundtable is to work globally to achieve consensus on four key areas to help drive improvements in research and pathways for implementation of evidence into practice.
- Biomarkers for recovery, chair Prof Lara Boyd (Canada), co-chair Dr Nick Ward (UK)
- Measurements in clinical trials, chair Prof Gert Kwakkel (Netherlands), co-chair Prof Julie Bernhardt (Australia)
- Translation of evidence into human trials, chair Dr Dale Corbett (Canada), co-chair Dr Tom Carmichael (USA)
- Intervention standards, chair Prof Marion Walker (UK), co-chair Professor Tammy Hoffmann (Australia)An important stage of this initiative will involve a stakeholder meeting which will be an invitation-only gathering of “who’s who” in the international stroke clinical and
translational research landscape.First Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable
